It's that time of year again...
...if this is the week of my birthday, that means that American Idol is back!

I think I might be the only person left that I know who actually gives a crap. My sister insisted all year that she will not be my Idol buddy this year, and that saddened me. Last season was a blast when we were both watching. We made up nicknames for people we didn't like (Mayonaise Sandwich, Jager Bombs, BJ Mic, Crazy Eyes, The Other David), we mercilessly ragged on Paula and her comments (me to my sister 15 minutes into an episode: "Looks like Paula's meds are kicking in early tonight!"), we mapped out our phone vote distribution on the whiteboard ("OK, if we give Jason 2 votes, we have to give 4 to David A...). We even had our own chant:
Me: [name of our town] Chapter of the David Archuleta Fan Club, represent!
My sister: Whoo! (complete with synchronised fist pumps in air)
And before you get all retarded on me, our allegiances eventually shifted for David Cook (known early on as The Other David), because he was doing an awesome job and Little David just got really creepy. Plus, I didn't want David A. to win because The Machine (and his crazy stage-harpy of a father) would eat him alive, and I just didn't want to see that happen to the poor kid.
Anyway, Idol is definitely a show best watched with a friend. And wouldn't you know that Tuesday night, my sister was right there on the couch with me, cracking up over Simon's facial expressions (including the Pervy Eyes) and being amazed that Randy only used the word "dawg" once in the entire 2 hour premiere.
And can I just say that I heart the new judge Kara DioGuardi. I. Heart. Her. When she threw down against Bikini Girl (who is sooooo not making past Hollywood week, btw), I was so stoked. There's actually a judge on the panel now who can actually sing (sorry Paula, nothing but love for you, but seriously - a great vocalist you are not) and has some more relevant insight to what it takes to be a good artist!
I am also thrilled that there will be no theme nights this season. That is a blessing, especially after the diaster that was the 2 week mauling (with some exceptions) of the Lennon-McCartney songbook. They did that waaaaay too early in the season and we ended up being subjected to that god-awful horrible detestable country rendition of "8 Days A Week" by Kristy Lee "Crazy Eyes" Cook.
I almost threw the remote at the television. I was that mad.
But there's some interesting people that have made it to Hollywood so far, so I'm excited about this season already.
And I'm really glad that I have my Idol buddy back. :)
