Summer is over.
That is a very sad fact. We had a massive heat wave at the end of July, and then summer started ending. It got cooler at nights, too cold in the office for air conditioning (so I froze to death). And as everyone was ready to go out on a high note with the Labor Day weekend...
...Ernesto crashed the party.
Rain and wind and more rain and more wind just made yesterday miserable. So we stayed in and watched Rutgers' season opener against UNC, which we won. And it was good. Then we had some friends over, played the Mean Girls drinking game, took a late night munchie run to Wawa, and then I passed out on the couch. It was a great night.
Today the skies are clear and the sun is out. It's too chilly to go to the beach, but I'm not much of a shore kind of girl. The water grosses me out...it really is dirty.
Dirrty Jerz represent!
Yup, summer is over, and there's a lot of things that I did not accomplish. We didn't go back to DC like we wanted to. We didn't go to Rehoboth Beach. I didn't paint my bedroom. We haven't finished decorating the living room. I didn't go to Great Adventure. I didn't go to New Hope. I didn't get my sweaters dry cleaned. I haven't cleaned my room. I didn't see the movies I wanted to see. I did not order HBO for the apartment. I never went to the gym. I didn't take a vacation.
You know what's funny? We always save everything for the summer. Maybe it's a carryover from the school years where you do everything in the summer because that's the only time you have to do anything. And as each summer gets closer, your list gets longer, and as soon as Memorial Day weekend hits...BAM! It's like this starter pistol that goes off and you're racing to get everything done by September.
But really, September doesn't really mean much when you're not in school any more. But it still signals the end of summer and the motivation to get out and do something.
But instead of lamenting missed opportunities and un-followed-through plans, I should reflect on the highlights and my achievements of the past 3 months.
I landed a full time job. I got wasted in South Beach. I earned a $50 flight credit on JetBlue. I scored a dress at Neiman Marcus for only $100. We painted the living room. I auditioned for American Idol. I qualified for the finals in a karaoke contest. I bought a new rug for my room. "The Real World: Bayshore Edition" is having a great second season with new cast members, new drama, and plenty of booze. I've grown a lot closer to my mom. I only bought 3 pairs of shoes. I have Karaoke Revolution Party for my GameCube. I still watch Project Runway. I'm addicted to the second season of Flavor of Love and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I planned a trip to Chicago in October. I saw "Snakes on a Plane." I started a Netflix subscription. I spent an entire Sunday reading a VC Andrews book. We took Andre to Medieval Times for his birthday. I spoiled myself at Bath and Body Works. Andre and I went to Hershey Park and spent 20 minutes singing Dueling Banjos while driving past farms.
All in all, not too bad.
Off to go fall clothes shopping, another school ritual that's hard to shake.
Happy Labor Day.
