Epic Music Project Update
Just over a month into the project, and I'm on shelf 3 of approximately 15 shelves of CDs. Each "shelf" holds approximately 15 CDs, so that makes roughly...225 discs to get through total. Yesterday I finished up with the B's (Carla Bruni, current First Lady of France - I scored the disc for free from the Neighborhood Bookstore) and started with the C's (a 3 disc Cake marathon, Tevin Campbell in the player now, and Mariah Carey on deck).
So far, the project's been pretty fun. If you check out the sidebar on this page, you'll see my list of my favorites, which I'll add to as I progress through the collection. My criteria for making the list is pretty much any CD that I get really excited about hearing, I know almost all the words to, and is a complete listening experience from beginning to end. I already know some of the albums that are going to end up on the list, but I won't add them till they've actually been heard again.
The tough part about this whole endeavor has been fighting the urge to listen to a particular album even though it won't come up in the order for another month or two. The other tough part is knowing that there are albums that I want to buy, and trying to time the purchase so that I won't have to wait too long to hear it. I'm uber excited about Green Day's upcoming 21st Century Breakdown, dropping on May 15th, so I'm hoping that I'm not past the G collection by that time.
Other Notes:
Most Skipped Tracks So Far: Brandy, Never Say Never. I'm a fan of a bunch of the singles that were radio releases on this album, but the final 3rd of the disc just dragged with wretched filler.
Most Bizarre Album So Far: Lou Bega, A Little Bit of Mambo. Everyone remembers the catchy-to-the-point-of-obnoxious track Mambo No. 5, but can you imagine listening to a whole album of this guy? Apparently I could in 1999, when I bought this CD. It's just...bizarre.
A Cool Album You Probably Haven't Heard: The Boy Least Likely To, The Best Party Ever. I'm a semi-huge fan of Grey's Anatomy, and every once in a while I hit up the show's website to get a list of cool songs that have played in the episodes. I found a song from this band, Be Gentle With Me, and after checking out the rest of the album, I ordered it online. (You may have also heard the song in one of the trailers for Juno.) The best way to describe the album is that it sounds like it should be a kids' album but it's totally not. It's light, poppy, fun, and just quirky. If you wanna give it a spin, you should also check out my second favorite track on the album, I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star.
Off to do laundry, eat dinner, and catch up on some other stuff before checking out tonight's Dancing With The Stars. I was a huge fan of David Alan Grier and Steve-O, but now I'm rooting for Lil' Kim. If Melissa Rycroft can bounce back from her injury last week, she'll probably win. Or Gilles Marini will win, as long as he keeps doing Latin dances (he did an Argentine tango a few weeks back that was h-o-t-t!!). But I wouldn't be surprised if Queen Bee pulled off an upset - she's been awesome to watch!
A few weeks ago I was going to put up a mammoth post about American Idol, but I never finished it, and then everything just got outdated. We're down to Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, and Adam Lambert. Thanks to the producers' fake shock/boot moment of putting Lambert in the bottom 3, he's pretty much guaranteed a spot in the finals (the fantards will ensure that he doesn't see B3 again). Honestly, even though Kris and Allison are way more talented and entertaining than Danny or Adam, it's going to be a Gokey/Lambert showdown for the crown. I guess that's not such a bad thing. My hope is that a really awesome producer snatches up Allison as soon as she's free from her Idol contract obligations, because that chile can sang! (Yes, I meant chile and yes I meant sang because she is a 16 year old with a truly awesome voice.)
Ok, really going now. Laters!
