Oh, February...
...you cruel, cruel month. Thank goodness you're the shortest one of the year.
Weather-wise, things have only somewhat improved. We have been getting at least one major storm per week. Last week was my official breaking point - my car was completely encased in a coating of ice about a quarter-inch thick. The following fake news story is what I created on my Facebook page while I was at work that day:
Somerset Co. Woman Snaps; Torches Yard With Flamethrower
After melting the majority of the snow and ice in her front yard, the woman disappeared. Authorities believe she has fled the state for warmer weather, possibly Florida. Reports have come in from beachfront bars in South Florida about a half crazed woman demanding bucket sized margaritas. She is wearing one snow boot, one flip-flop, and is wielding an ice scraper. She does not appear to be dangerous, but is muttering about "making the white stuff go away." Authorities have not been able to determine if she is the same woman who torched her yard in Jersey.
That's how awful this winter has been.
Otherwise, I guess things are ok. Job hunting again. Carrying on a decent social life. Watching too many tv shows and not reading enough, but I am finally reading The Grapes of Wrath and actually enjoying it.
Fun fact: I earned a college degree without having read a single page of Dickens, Steinbeck, Hemingway, or Twain. Since graduating, I have read Great Expectations (not bad), A Farewell To Arms (forgettable), about 20 pages of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (hated it, but will give Huck Finn a shot), and now I'm on Grapes. So far, I'm digging Steinbeck the most.
So, I'm failing pretty hard at both blogging more often and saying more interesting things since this is a big year for the blog and all. There is a project that I've thought about working on here, either within the blog or as a separate-yet-affiliated blog, but I haven't worked up the courage to do it yet.
Soon, hopefully.
But since I promised some fun and cool stuff, here's a five-year flashback to February '06. Another snowy month, but it was back when I still somewhat enjoyed snow.
Sunday Snow Day - February 12, 2006
Aight y'all, I'm Audi 5000. My half-hour break in my Thursday Night TV-Palooza is almost over, and I can't miss a second of Grey's Anatomy! Laters!
